Joyce Thomas Memorial Award

Our classmate and friend, Joyce Thomas, BA’06, JD’09, passed away on August 4, 2019 at age 36. A community leader who had a strong passion for Access to Justice, as well as a number of other worthy causes, Joyce volunteered with Community Legal Services and Neighbourhood Legal Services for many years, both during her law school career and following.

Joyce’s commitment extended through her various involvements, including: Council Member on the Ontario Bar Association, Better Business Bureau Board Member, McCormick Care Group Board Member, Co-Chair Southwest Region Women's Law Association, Volunteer Lawyer for Litigation Practice at Western University, Lawyer Supervisor for Pro Bono Students Canada, Coach with OTLA Team from Western University and Past Trustee of Middlesex Law Association. She was also the incoming Southwest Region Director for the Ontario Bar Association. Joyce was very proud of the work she did and all of her accomplishments, including her recent endeavour of opening her own practice.

In honour of Joyce’s strong sense of community and her kind nature to help others, please join fellow alumni and friends to establish the Joyce Thomas Memorial Award. The award will assist a law student (with preference given to an Indigenous student) who has positively contributed to the community.
