Mark Mahoney Memorial Scholarship
The Scholarship was established by the family of Mark A. Mahoney (Western Law 2006) in memory of an outstanding student, talented & creative lawyer and deeply cherished friend. Mark’s compassion, courage, integrity and enthusiasm for life left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. Mark joined the law firm Fraser Milner Casgrain (now Dentons Canada LLP) in 2004 as a 1st year summer student. In his 3rd year of Law School, Mark participated in the Exchange Program with the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. After graduating from Western, Mark practiced law at Dentons for his entire career and was a highly accomplished Partner in the Business Law group until his premature passing.
Mark believed that legal education and practice were not only about understanding the law but about applying it with care, clarity, and conscience while expanding his own world experience to make a contribution to one’s community. Endlessly curious, he was a voracious reader & avid world traveller, and sought to incorporate these experiences in his own legal practice. Mark also devoted himself to mentoring students & lawyers because he believed in the importance of helping others learn and grow.
